Chapter 01

What Makes the Red Rooster Menu Different

Red Rooster started as a roast chicken shop in 1972 and still builds its menu around the chook.

The first Red Rooster opened in Kelmscott, Western Australia, in 1972. The menu now runs to 104 items across roast chicken, fried chicken, burgers and rolls, boxes, shared meals, sides, desserts and drinks.

Roast and fried sit side by side. You can order a whole roast chicken for $16.95 or fried chicken by the piece from $3.95, in original, Hot Honey or Reds Hot.

Every store is owned by a local franchisee, which is why a few prices and items can differ from one suburb to the next.

This handbook pulls the numbers together so you can order with confidence.

Chapter 2

Roast Chicken by the Piece

The roast range scales from a quarter to a whole chook.

A quarter chicken costs $7.75 (1,180 kJ), a half $10.75 and a whole $16.95. Doubling up from a quarter to a half costs $3.00 more.

The Quarter Chicken Combo adds chips and a drink for $12.25, and the Rooster Feed turns a whole chicken into a family dinner for $38.95.

Red Rooster says its chicken is Halal certified at the supplier, though the stores themselves are not Halal certified.

Order a whole chicken ahead in the app at dinner time to skip the wait.

Chapter 3

Value Picks

The best value at Red Rooster is not always the cheapest item.

Chook Change keeps 6 small bites between $2.00 and $3.95. 62 menu items cost less than $10.

For kilojoules per dollar, the leaders are $8 Rooster Value Meal (674 kJ per $1), Burger Pack (595 kJ per $1), BBQ Cheeseburger (577 kJ per $1).

Box meals run $13.45 to $17.45 and bundle a main, a piece of chicken or a fritter, mash, chips and a drink.

The Budget Finder tool lists every combination under your limit.

Chapter 4

Counting Kilojoules

The average Red Rooster food item carries 3,957 kJ.

Australian menus show energy in kilojoules. The average adult daily intake is 8,700 kJ, and one calorie is about 4.2 kJ.

The lightest food choices are Gravy (210 kJ), Peas (230 kJ), Mash & Gravy (310 kJ).

Regular chips carry 1,350 kJ. A Rippa Roll starts at 2,450 kJ, and fried chicken pieces average 6,027 kJ across the fried section.

Every item page lists kilojoules, calories and the share of an 8,700 kJ day.

Chapter 5

Dietary Needs

Red Rooster publishes its own Halal, vegan, vegetarian and gluten guidance.

Vegan friendly (no meat, dairy or eggs), with a risk of cross contamination: chips with chip salt, sweet potato chips, crunchy potato, corn wheels, pineapple fritters and peas.

No product is 100% gluten free because of wheat in the kitchen. Gluten friendly products (no wheat in the ingredients, cross contamination possible): dressed coleslaw, salted chips, peas, mash potato and Smokey BBQ sauce tubs.

Flavour enhancer 621 (MSG) is in the fried chicken, the tenders used in burgers, Rippas and wraps, the Spicy Pepper sauce and Blackened Aioli. All Red Rooster sauces are made with pasteurised egg.

Read the official allergen chart and tell staff about any allergy, every time.

Chapter 6

Stores and Hours

Our data lists 328 trading Red Rooster stores.

Queensland has the most, with 121. 280 stores have a drive thru and 288 offer delivery.

Opening hours vary by store. Each location page on this site lists every store with all seven days of hours and a phone number.

A 10% surcharge applies on nationally recognised public holidays, to in-store, online and app orders at all Red Rooster restaurants. It is added at payment and is not included in menu prices.

The locations pages show the stores nearest to you.

Chapter 7

Ordering Smarter

A little planning saves both time and money.

The Red Rooster app and website take click and collect orders. You tell the store when you have arrived and it starts cooking.

The delivery menu is priced higher than the in-restaurant menu to cover delivery partner costs. Orders through Uber Eats, DoorDash or Menulog are handled by those apps.

For a group, price a catering order with the Catering Calculator and split it with the Bill Splitter. The pineapple fritter, at $3.35, makes an easy add on for the table.
